Nairobi – The Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA) will hold its 41st Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 5th December 2020 as a private virtual event, hosted by the KATA Board and Secretariat, headquartered in Nairobi.

Balala backs open skies policy to jumpstart aviation, tourism

Commercial aviation has been one of the hardest hit sectors since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic globally as demand for air travel slumped sharply on account of movement restrictions to contain the diseases.

While losses are expected to continue mounting due to travel uncertainties, Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala says the Yamoussoukro Declaration of 199 that relaxes some airspace restrictions within the continent could salvage the ailing tourism sector.

“This can only be achieved if we embrace open skies policy because failure to do so will remain a major hindrance in the aviation sector, and not only the region, but the continent as well will continue to underperform on the global stage,” said CS Balala. Read More

KATA announces partnership with AMREF

The Kenya Association of Travel Agents is pleased to announce that it has partnered with Amref Health Africa to provide KATA certified agents with access to Covid19, PCR testing services provided at their Amref clinic based on a preferential tariff, access to a dedicated call center and a medical team that is ready to facilitate the Covid19 PCR testing services by appointment.

The Covid19 pandemic has mandated that passengers must undergo a mandatory PCR test and they must test negative prior to undertaking their travel. The KATA and Amref Health Africa partnership will enable the travel agents to book test appointments on behalf of the passenger, and to secure an appointment for the Covid19 PCR test to be performed at the Amref clinic located next to the Wilson Airport, off Langata road. New Travel Agency Commissioners Announced

The International Air Transport Association (IATA), the World Travel Agents Associations Alliance (WTAAA) and the United Federation of Travel Agents’ Associations (UFTAA) announced the appointment of Travel Agency Commissioners.

The Travel Agency Commissioner Program was established 30 years ago and resides within the Travel Agency Program overseen by the Passenger Agency Conference (PAConf). It enables IATA Accredited Agents to raise cases of actions taken by IATA or IATA Member Airlines which may impact the Agents’ business or where the Agent believes the action was not aligned with PAConf Resolutions.
