The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has called upon all governments to take immediate action in ensuring the survival of the sector.

WTTC President and Chief Executive Ms. Gloria Guevara emphasised on the need for the governments to act immediately stating that any further delay will lead to loss of millions of jobs and an incalculable damage globally.

She pointed out to three crucial measures that governments should adopt, in addition to the recovery of funds, which will protect the survival of millions of people who heavily rely on the sector for their livelihood. Read More

Kenya National Parks and sanctuaries will remain open to welcome visitors and nature lovers.

KWS Director General Brig. John Waweru said in a statement that KWS has ensured the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene are met ensuring that visitors remain safe.

“Kenya Wildlife Service is taking a series of measures to curb the spread of the virus including providing customers and staff members with a clean and safe environment by upholding the requisite hygiene measures and maintaining adequate contact distance as guided by the Ministry of Health,”. The Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA) has urged Kenyans to remain calm amidst reports of the first diagnosed case of Coronavirus.

KATA CEO Ms. Agnes Mucuha stated that despite a case being reported in the country, Kenyans should continue following directives issued by the Ministry of Health that will help in stopping the spread of the highly contagious disease that has so far claimed over 4,600 lives and infected over 130, 000 others.

“We urge the public to take every precaution as they go about their business to avoid the risk of spreading the disease further. We are confident in the measures that are in place by the government to control the spread of the disease and with adherence” she stated. Read More

The Corona Virus that has so far claimed over 3, 300 lives and infected over 98, 000 others has caused an unprecedented disruption in the aviation and travel industry, The Kenya Association of Travel Agents Chairman Mr. Mohammed Wanyoike has said.

The virus, he said, has led to cancellation of flights and rescheduling of passenger travel in the recent months, therefore affecting business.

He was speaking during a press conference held at the KATA offices in Westlands on Wednesday where he pointed out that there has been a 6 percent decline in passenger bookings in February and 10 percent to date in March. Read More
