US retains highest advisory on Kenya over ‘steep’ rise in Covid-19 cases

The US government has retained its highest travel advisory on Nairobi initially indicated by the Centers for Disease Control, and which asks Americans not to travel to Kenya due to Covid-19 cases.

In its update published on Wednesday, the State Department asked its citizens not to travel to Kenya and “exercise increased caution in Kenya due to crime, terrorism, health issues and kidnapping.”

The alert was, in fact, first raised by the US Centers for Disease Control following a rise in the number of cases. It issued a Level Four advisory, which is to ask its nationals not to travel to a region over insecurity or health. Read More

Covid-19: Kenya added to UK’s ‘red list’ travel ban

The United Kingdom has banned people travelling from Kenya from entering England starting April 9 to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. 

Kenya is among four counties that have been added to the UK’s red list amid concerns about new Covid-19 variants.

Travellers, who have departed from or transited through Kenya, the Philippines, Pakistan and Bangladesh in the previous 10 days will be refused entry into England.

Only British and Irish citizens or residents will be allowed to enter the country from these nations from 4am on Friday April 9. Read More

Iata’s new Middle East And Africa chief fears pandemic-induced airline bankruptcies this year

Airlines in the Middle East and Africa “without a doubt” face a threat of pandemic-induced bankruptcies this year in the absence of timely support, according to the International Air Transport Association (Iata)’s new regional chief.

The aviation industry’s main lobby group is talking to authorities across the region to “highlight the dangers” of insufficient support for national carriers, Kamil Al-Awadhi, Iata’s regional vice president for Africa and Middle East, said in an interview. Read More

African airlines face bankruptcy due to pandemic effects says survey

African airlines are staring at bankruptcy if their liquidity crisis is not addressed with urgency, a new survey has shown.

The survey by The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the African Airlines Association (AFRAA) reveals that Indeed, a number of airlines around the world are already insolvent.

In Africa, for instance, Air Mauritius has entered into administration. But the report dubbed Policy research paper Covid-19 and African airlines overcoming a liquidity crisis also observes that some carriers on the continent were already struggling prior to the spread of COVID-19. Read More
