{"id":5182,"date":"2022-04-10T15:22:38","date_gmt":"2022-04-10T15:22:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.silverbirdsafari-africa.com\/blog\/competition-heats-up-in-uganda-with-startups-lining-up\/"},"modified":"2022-04-10T15:22:38","modified_gmt":"2022-04-10T15:22:38","slug":"competition-heats-up-in-uganda-with-startups-lining-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.silverbirdsafari-africa.com\/blog\/competition-heats-up-in-uganda-with-startups-lining-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Competition heats up in Uganda with startups lining up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Competition in the Ugandan air service sector is set to receive a shot in the arm with the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) having received four new applications for air services licenses (ASLs) after having greenlighted startup&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/portal\/airline\/0A8\">Bar Aviation<\/a>&nbsp;(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/portal\/airports\/5919\">Kajjansi<\/a>) earlier this year, according to local media reports.<\/p>\n<p>New Vision newspaper reports that Ugandan engineering and construction company Dott Services Limited, Safari Air International Limited, freight company Panafrica Aviation Limited, and Aberdair Aviation Uganda Limited &#8211; the Ugandan affiliate of Kenya&#8217;s Aberdair Aviation Group &#8211; will defend their ASL applications before the UCAA on May 5, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>They report the licenses are for the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dott Services Limited has applied for an ASL to operate a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/aircraft-data\/CJM\">Cessna 510<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Safari Air International Limited has applied for an ASL to operate&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/portal\/airline\/CEA\">Cessna Aircraft Company<\/a>&nbsp;421C Golden Eagle,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/aircraft-data\/BE2\">Beech (twin piston)<\/a>&nbsp;Baron G58, and the Fuji FA-200 Aero Subaru single-piston-powered monoplane;<\/li>\n<li>Panafric Aviation Limited has applied for an ASL using&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/aircraft-data\/PAT\">Piper (twin turboprop)<\/a>&nbsp;PA-34 Seneca; and<\/li>\n<li>Aberdair Aviation Uganda Limited has applied for an ASL using&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/aircraft-variants\/DHC8300\">DHC-8-300<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/aircraft-data\/EMB\">E110<\/a>, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/portal\/airline\/AIR\">Airbus<\/a>&nbsp;H125 helicopter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) was not immediately available for comment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/portal\/news\/113927-ugandas-bar-aviation-debuts-schedules-to-national-parks\">As reported<\/a>, Bar Aviation launched domestic schedules from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/portal\/airports\/4191\">Entebbe\/Kampala<\/a>&nbsp;to four national parks in the country in an interline partnership with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/portal\/airline\/UGX\">Uganda Airlines<\/a>&nbsp;(UR,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/portal\/airports\/4191\">Entebbe\/Kampala<\/a>) on February 1, 2022, with a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/aircraft-data\/CNC\">Cessna (single turboprop)<\/a>208B Grand Caravan.<\/p>\n<p>Uganda currently has only four scheduled active airlines, including national carrier&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/portal\/airline\/UGX\">Uganda Airlines<\/a>, which holds about 46% market share (in terms of weekly aircraft seat capacity) at Entebbe\/Kampala;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/portal\/airline\/QP\">AirKenya<\/a>&nbsp;subsidiary&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/portal\/airline\/UGD\">AeroLink Uganda<\/a>&nbsp;(A8,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/portal\/airports\/4191\">Entebbe\/Kampala<\/a>) has a 45% market share, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/portal\/airline\/H7\">Eagle Air<\/a>&nbsp;(EGU,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/portal\/airports\/4191\">Entebbe\/Kampala<\/a>), which provides domestic and charter flights to East and Central Africa.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/portal\/news\/114438-competition-heats-up-in-uganda-with-startups-lining-up\">Ch-aviation<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Competition in the Ugandan air service sector is set to receive a shot in the arm with the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) having received four new applications for air services licenses (ASLs) after having greenlighted startup&nbsp;Bar Aviation&nbsp;(Kajjansi) earlier this year, according to local media reports.
